BMA House marks 100 years at the heart of medicine, meetings and meaningful events

BMA House, the iconic Grade II-listed events venue in Bloomsbury, London, celebrated a major milestone yesterday – its 100th birthday as the home of the British Medical Association (BMA).

First opened in 1925, BMA House has spent the past century at the intersection of healthcare and hospitality. Originally designed in 1911 by Sir Edwin Lutyens for the Theosophical Society, the building was repurposed after the First World War and acquired by the BMA, which officially made it their headquarters on 13 July 1925.

In the century since, BMA House has evolved beyond its institutional roots to become one of London’s leading venues for meetings, conferences, weddings, and events – all delivered with a strong sustainability ethos.

With 22 flexible spaces including a tranquil botanical Garden and majestic Courtyard, BMA House blends historic charm with contemporary versatility. It regularly hosts events for up to 320 guests and is just minutes from Kings Cross, Euston and St Pancras stations.

"BMA House is more than a building – it’s a place where great minds have met for a century. As we mark this historic birthday, we’re also looking ahead to the future of events: inclusive, impactful, and above all, sustainable. We’re proud of our heritage and even prouder of the purpose that drives us today."

Hannah Robinson, Venue Manager, BMA House

BMA House is renowned in the events world for championing eco-conscious operations. Recent accolades include a Platinum ECOsmart status with Greengage and Best Sustainable Venue at 2024 London Venue & Catering Awards. Initiatives such as carbon-conscious catering, zero-to-landfill policies, and delegate carbon tracking have helped the venue cut its environmental impact by 69% since 2019.

As BMA House reflects on 100 years of history, it continues to host forward-thinking events. A full calendar of commemorative celebrations is planned throughout the year, honouring both the building’s medical legacy and its role as a beacon for the future of sustainable events.
