Stress Matters & The Delegate Wranglers have teamed up to offer out a challenge to it's members - not only is it a healthy thing to do, but you someone will also win a gratitude journal!

Laura Capell-Abra, founder of Stress Matters (The Delegate Wranglers Official Wellbeing Partners), is challenging all DW's to drink 2.5 litres of water a day this week (or close to it) and at the end of the challenge, a gratitude journal is up for grabs.

To be in with a chance to win a gratitude journal, each day this week (Mon 14 - Fri 18), Laura will start a thread and you just need to comment under it and tell us if you've hit these targets. And we'll choose one lucky entrant who'll win the journal!

So why are we doing this?
Drinking enough water each day is crucial for many reasons: to regulate body temperature, keep joints lubricated, prevent infections, deliver nutrients to cells, and keep organs functioning properly.

But the reason we wanted to focus on it in particular is that being well-hydrated also improves sleep quality, cognition, and our Mental health.
In a study in young women, researchers found that fluid loss of 1.4% after exercise impaired both mood and concentration. It also increased the frequency of headaches. Many members of this same research team conducted a similar study in young men. They found that fluid loss of 1.6% was detrimental to working memory and increased feelings of anxiety and fatigue.

This level of hydration can happen in the course of a normal day, it's not just in heat waves that we are at risk of dehydration, most of us are in a state of perpetual dehydration, we have just accepted the side effects without realising.

Laura tells us that she is really passionate about encouraging people to drink more water

"It's one of those easy things we can all do to improve our own health and we can encourage others to drink more water through challenges like this in the workplace. We can all do with a little bit of accountability and the DW members will be able to support each other this week!"
