Katie Cotton to retire after 18 years with The Meetings Industry Association

Katie Cotton, Operations Director at The Meetings Industry Association (MIA), has announced that she will be retiring in May 2026, after 18 years with the organisation.

Katie joined the MIA in June 2008 in an administrative role and quickly became an integral part of the membership support team. Her dedication, insight and commitment saw her progress through the organisation, culminating in her appointment as Operations Director in April 2024.

During her time with the MIA, Katie played a pivotal role in shaping the association and strengthening the support it provides to its members. This included her instrumental role in the implementation of Meetings Intelligence, the introduction of MIA Meets as well as the development of the MIA’s event programme, which at the time of her joining consisted solely of the association’s AGM.

Katie’s passion for the sector and her care for its people were especially evident during the pandemic, when she worked tirelessly to support members as they navigated one of the most challenging periods in the industry’s history.

Over the years, Katie worked closely with MIA chief executives, building a reputation for professionalism and playing a key role in supporting the leadership and growth of the organisation.

Speaking on Katie’s retirement, MIA CEO Shonali Devereaux said: “Katie’s contribution to the MIA over the past 18 years has been truly extraordinary. Her exceptional industry knowledge has played a fundamental role in shaping the organisation we are today, and her dedication, loyalty and professionalism have been central to our success.

“On a personal level, Katie has been a trusted colleague and a huge source of support to me, and she will be missed enormously by the whole team and our members. We are deeply grateful for everything she has given to the MIA and there is no doubt she leaves behind an incredible legacy.”

“This hasn’t been an easy decision, but after 18 rewarding years it feels like the right time for me to step away and embrace the next chapter. I’ve had the privilege of working with incredible people in an incredible industry, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to contribute to the growth and success of the MIA. I will always look back on my time here with great fondness, and now I look forward to seeing how the MIA continues to evolve in the future.

Following Katie’s announcement, the MIA is now accepting applications for a Membership & Operations Manager to help continue the work Katie has led and ensure a seamless transition.
