The Meetings Industry Association (mia), one of the fastest growing trade associations in the business meetings and events sector, has appointed Sandra Eyre as director of business development.
The key appointment will see Sandra, who joins from Birmingham’s NEC group, report directly to mia chief executive Kerrin MacPhie.
In the crucial new role Sandra will be drawing on her 20 years’ experience of working for some of the UK’s premiere venues where she nurtured relationships with associations, agencies and PCO’s, to help the mia reach its aggressive membership growth, accreditation and sponsorship targets.
Kerrin MacPhie, chief executive of the mia, said: “Sandra is a focused and dynamic business development professional with an incredible understanding and passion for the business meetings and events sector. She has a natural ability to build long-term collaborative relationships, turning ideas into reality and an impressive track record of securing new business, developing existing relationships and maintaining repeat business.
“Her role will be essential to meet our aims and ambitions as we seek to further grow the mia and its value to members while delivering more industry insight and providing guidance on the issues important to the sector.”
Sandra Eyre said: “I am delighted to be joining the mia in this newly created role. We all know the last few years through the pandemic were not easy, however, they also provided a huge learning curve in overcoming challenges and association’s such as the highly regarded mia play a significant role in supporting business tourism. I’m looking forward to working with and supporting members as the recovery continues.”
