Nottingham Venues Achieves EcoSmart Gold Accreditation in Major Sustainability Milestone

Gold accreditation recognises Nottingham Venues’ long-term commitment to reducing its environmental impact

Nottingham Venues is proud to announce that it has achieved EcoSmart Gold accreditation from Greengage Solutions, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing commitment to sustainability.

The accreditation follows several years of maintaining EcoSmart Silver status and reflects continued progress in reducing environmental impact across the business and embedding more sustainable practices into day-to-day operations.

EcoSmart is a leading sustainability accreditation for the hospitality and events sector, providing a robust, independently assessed framework across energy, waste, water and procurement. It is widely recognised across the industry as a credible benchmark for venues committed to reducing their environmental impact.

Nottingham Venues, which operates the East Midlands Conference Centre, the Orchard Hotel, Jubilee Hotel & Conferences and Bramley’s Restaurant, has introduced a range of practical measures to support its move to Gold.

These include improvements to energy efficiency through LED upgrades and motion sensors, alongside enhanced use of building management systems to better monitor and reduce consumption. The team has also carried out water and waste audits, introducing clear action plans to reduce usage and improve recycling rates.

A greater focus has been placed on responsible sourcing, with more local suppliers used across food and beverage operations, helping to reduce food miles while supporting regional producers. The business has also reduced its reliance on single use plastics through initiatives such as online check-in and digital room keys.

Alongside its environmental work, Nottingham Venues continues to support the wider community through partnerships with organisations including Switch Up, Hospitality Action and British Deer Society.

“Achieving EcoSmart Gold is a proud moment for us and reflects the commitment from teams across the business to continually improve how we operate. Sustainability is part of our day-to-day decision making, from how we manage our buildings to how we work with suppliers and support our local community. This recognition shows the progress we’ve made, but we see it as part of an ongoing journey rather than a finish line.”

The accreditation further strengthens Nottingham Venues’ position as a leading sustainable events and hospitality provider in the East Midlands, with environmental responsibility continuing to shape both its operations and future investment.

Nottingham Venues comprises a collection of spaces including the East Midlands Conference Centre, The Orchard Hotel, Jubilee Hotel & Conferences and Campus Venues. Together, they welcome tens of thousands of delegates, guests and visitors each year, supporting both the regional visitor economy and the wider business events sector.
