Leading sustainable event consultancy, The Bulb, has released a guide aimed at event organisers navigating through the ‘new normal’ of live event planning.

Events, Sustainability and Safety in a Post-Lockdown Era provides a framework for balancing both the safety of people with a responsibility to the Planet and shares recommendations on how to minimise plastic PPE, sustainable design of events and responsible waste management.

Alongside the devastating human cost of the virus and the unfathomable impact on the global economy, Covid-19 has led to a pandemic of plastic pollution. The demand for single-use personal protective equipment (PPE), disposable wipes, gloves and masks, cleaning agents and hand sanitiser is at a record high, with over a billion items used in the UK alone between February and April this year, leading to a detrimental effect on the environment.

The Bulb’s founder, Selina Donald, says The pandemic has changed the way we plan and deliver events for the foreseeable future. As we look towards the start of live events, and find ways to rebuild and recover, we can guarantee that PPE will be crucial. The events industry, as the fifth biggest polluter in the world, had made great strides towards becoming more sustainable, and we can’t lose this momentum as well as our responsibility to the Planet, as well as our team and attendees.
Moving forward, the measure of a successful event will be based on how safe it was for people, and how responsible it was for the Planet.”

The Bulb turned five today, having launched in 2015 and was the first UK event agency to become a certified B Corporation. The Bulb works with event organisers, in-house teams and NGO’s to provide sustainability consultancy as well as event production with minimal environmental impact. Their client list includes the United Nations, Vivienne Westwood, CARE International, Lush and ASOS.
