The Met Hotel Leeds has officially revealed the results of its highly anticipated refurbishment - a striking transformation that breathes new life into one of the city’s most cherished heritage landmarks. Blending timeless grandeur with contemporary design, this new chapter for The Met redefines what modern hospitality means in the heart of Leeds.
Originally opened in 1899, the Grade II listed building has long stood as an architectural and social icon of the city. Designed by local architects Chorley & Connon and brought to life by designers Matthews Mee; its distinctive terracotta façade and elegant Victorian detailing have been lovingly preserved, while the interiors have been completely reimagined to reflect Leeds’ evolving energy, creativity, and cultural spirit.
Heritage reborn
The extensive refurbishment, which began in 2023, was a careful process of restoration and reinvention. From the grand entrance and sweeping staircase to the hotel’s distinctive barrel-vaulted ceilings, every space has been revived with meticulous attention to detail. Warm tones, rich textures, and atmospheric lighting now bring a renewed sense of warmth and sophistication to the historic interiors.
Guest rooms and suites have been thoughtfully redesigned to offer understated luxury and individuality, with each space shaped by the building’s original Victorian geometry. Throughout, the design strikes a balance between authenticity and modern comfort - a nod to the past, elevated for today’s traveller.
Introducing Gott’s Bar & Kitchen
The unveiling also marks the debut of Gott’s Bar & Kitchen, The Met’s brand-new restaurant and bar, and the beating heart of the hotel’s transformation
This contemporary dining space champions locally sourced produce and bold Yorkshire flavours, offering a modern take on regional cuisine within a setting that mirrors the building’s refined elegance. Guests and locals alike can look forward to signature dishes such as The Met Steak & Onion Pie, Grilled Salmon with seaweed beurre blanc, and Korean Miso Cauliflower, perfectly complemented by an expertly curated drinks list and relaxed, sophisticated atmosphere.
With its open, welcoming design and emphasis on provenance and creativity, Gott’s Bar & Kitchen positions The Met not just as a place to stay, but as one of Leeds’ most exciting new destinations to dine, drink, and gather.
Revived spaces for every occasion
Beyond its guestrooms and restaurant, The Met’s meeting and event spaces, including the historic ballroom, have been revitalised to combine period character with cutting-edge facilities. Each of the nine newly refurbished rooms offers flexibility for business gatherings, weddings, and celebrations of all scales, embodying both heritage charm and modern sophistication.
Sustainability has been woven throughout the project, from the use of locally sourced materials to the inclusion of recycled and repurposed finishes that highlight regional craftsmanship.
A new era for a Leeds icon
Perfectly positioned on King Street, moments from Leeds train station and the city’s retail and cultural quarter, The Met now offers an elevated yet approachable experience for business and leisure travellers alike.
“The Met Hotel Leeds has always been a special place for the city - a meeting point, a celebration space, and a landmark in its own right. Our vision was to honour its legacy while creating something truly inspiring for today’s guests. The result is a hotel that feels timeless yet completely renewed and a place where history meets modern hospitality.”
