For our latest Supplier Focus interview, we caught up with Director of Sales for InterContinental London - The O2, Deena Amin
Q. In a nutshell, tell us about your business and your role there.
A. InterContinental London - The O2 is a full-service hotel and purpose-built conference centre, offering luxury accommodation and conference facilities overlooking the River Thames & Canary Wharf. Home to the UK’s largest pillar-free ballroom, complimented with a further 19 meeting spaces, both alfresco and indoor, and located just steps away from the world famous O2 arena. My role is the Director of Sales – I manage the hotel sales and meetings & events teams, providing value for our wonderful clients, and spaces where they can see their events come to life.
Q. How did you get started in the industry?
A. My first role in hospitality was in 1994 in South Carolina, USA, at a Radisson Hotel and Convention Centre. I loved it, and 27 years later I am still in the industry and loving every minute.
Q. Best moment for you at your company so far?
A. I have been lucky to have many great moments with InterContinental London – The O2. One of the best was confirming the UK-Africa Investment Summit in 2020, where we hosted over 2,500 delegates from several African nations. This included several Presidents, Prime Ministers and Heads of Nations, and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Other great moments include securing Sky Scanner’s sales kick-off event, and the BRIT Awards Afterparty, both of which we for over 2,000 delegates.
Q. How can your organisation’s services make a Delegate Wrangler’s life easier?
A. We offer full, seamless service throughout the entire process, from initial enquiry through to post-event. Our dedicated conference centre and event floors have been designed to deliver the optimal meeting environment, combining state-of-the-art facilities, distinctive catering options, and unrivalled service delivered by our team of professionals. It is the flexibility of both our spaces and our staff that make us the perfect location for any type of event.
Q. And finally - you have got one question to ask a famous person – who would it be and what would you ask?
A. Michelle Obama – because her public speaking and campaigns have empowered and motivated so many. I would ask Michelle: “What motivates you to continue fighting for the issues you care about? Who are your role models, and why?”
