Within 275 acres of beautiful Devon countryside Bovey Castle is a magical venue where five star luxury and top notch conferencing facilities meet!
Bovey Castle might just be one of the most picturesque venues we’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting for a venue showcase. The venue boasts sixty individually designed bedrooms, each emanating an opulence that feels perfectly suited to this historic venue.
The venue boasts a magnificent plethora of team building facilities, from foraging to archery to bee-keeping, which really sets it apart. We loved the creative and out-of-the-box solutions the events team had cooked up to make this venue a true stand out. The meeting spaces here are also stunning, there’s six in total, with all of them combining Bovey Castle’s regal elegance with sharp flexible rooms that leave a lasting impression!
It’s quite the challenge to paint the picture of just how beautiful, sprawling and impressive Bovey Castle and its surrounding estate is, but picture this: You drive down a mile of winding country lanes, cresting peaks and troughs through Dartmoor National Park. The venue greets you through a gorgeous 130 year old stone archway, and towers off in the background. The large 150 space car-park (valet available) runs the length of the castle to your right, and it just keeps on going, beautiful stone work, roof detailing and hundreds of beautiful large Neo-Elizabethan windows.
The valleys of Dartmoor frame this huge, remote castle for as far as the eye can see, this feels like luxury, truly separate from the rest of the world. The 25 Estate Lodges can be seen, gorgeous, modern additions to this hotel, for those looking to stay off site in some gorgeous standalone accommodation, these rooms can also provide great overflow for when you need more rooms for guests at your event.
The Bedrooms at Bovey Castle are absolutely gorgeous. They are brimming with class and luxury. The hotel was granted five star status in 2004 and truly lives up to the standard. The Luxury three bedroom lodges are truly breathtaking, they combine the impeccable service and benefits of the hotel, with the flexibility of self-catering. They’re dog friendly too, so event-goers with puppy pals are welcome to come along!
When staying in the lodges, guests can expect total premium service, there’s a meal delivery service, meaning high quality meals can be brought straight to your mini-home’s door. This service extends throughout the hotel, we honestly think that five stars might be an understatement for the exquisite staff who are friendly, thoughtful and experts in their designated fields, from the meeting rooms to the restaurants, to the reception staff, everyone was spot on!

Where to start with the facilities, the spa? The gym? The Golf course? The two magnificent restaurants? Sports facilities? Team building? There’s a lot to cover, so let’s start at the fine dining, because we’re peckish!
The Great Western Grill is a three times AA Rosette winning restaurant run by head chef Mark Buff, who earned his stripes at five-star establishments such as The Stafford, The Ritz and The Dorchester in London - and now runs Bovey Castle’s mind-blowing restaurants. The Great Western Grill combines classic British Cuisine with fine dining experimentation and reinvention, to produce brilliant, locally sourced plates! The hotel also has the Smiths brasserie which is a restaurant that offers picturesque views for a relaxing evening meal - the more low-key environment here goes well with a day playing golf or at the spa!
Speaking of the spa, how about a whistle stop tour of this stunning facility? The spa has a pool, whirlpool, sauna and steam room. There’s also the brilliant Elan spa and studio for top class massages and treatments, this is a brilliant way to wind down that we’d love to try. Complementing all of this is the gym, this quirky workout spot combines the classic oak walls of the castle, with top of the range modern equipment, and is open to all hotel guests!
The team here put a huge emphasis on maintaining the wonderful heritage of this brilliant estate, however they balance this with a commitment to keeping their facilities up to date with bespoke modern solutions. This extends to their back of house areas, with the venue’s kitchen recently receiving a 1.2 million pound renovation which elevates the facilities to the absolute highest standards.
This venue was originally bought and owned by William Henry Smith, who’s legacy today remains in the famous, eponymous booksellers, W. H. Smiths! The luxury of this aristocratic heritage is present today across the hotel, with stunning details everywhere the eye can see. The hotel, for example, features a helipad for guest use, so if you’re planning a board meeting in one of the meeting spaces, with some heavy hitters expected to visit, rest assured their private transport will be catered for, even if through the skies!
Both of the restaurants here can be hired for private dining, which as you can imagine by the standards of quality set by Bovey Castle, is absolutely stunning. Dining can be held in the Bovey Room (which we will get into in our meeting space highlights), the Mulberry Room (a great intimate, smaller space - that doesn’t lack a drop of character) and the larger Great Western for a party or drinks reception. While we’re on all of these amazing spaces, let's get into the details in our Meeting Space Highlights.
Across its six meeting spaces, Bovey Castle boasts itself as one of the best conference venues in Devon - we absolutely agree, this is a stunning space that ensures your meeting, event or team building activity will run perfectly. The team went above and beyond and were able to cater to practically any need we had. The dining capacity is 120 and all done by the incredible in-house team of world class chefs!
