Buxton Crescent Hotel

A building like no other, Buxton Crescent feels infused with the energy and life of the thermal waters that it stands on. We were in awe of this fantastic venue, tucked into the crux of the country. This gorgeous Georgian stone building houses a venue that is versatile, refreshing and classy. A no brainer for your next event. Put it this way, we’re desperate to go back.

Buxton Crescent stands on the edge of the Peak District national park, accented by a never ending treeline behind this incredibly renovated structure.

Ensana Hotel and Spa Group refurbished this historic building, which faced purgatory after closing its doors in the mid 90’s. Now restored and bristling with a fresh lease of life, the Crescent looms as an exciting, versatile venue that brings a timeless class to the events world. And does justice to the architectural beauty of one of Britain's first purpose built venues.

Each of its eighty-one bedrooms are gorgeously decorated, with its seven unique meeting rooms providing functional solutions for your next event.

As if this all wasn’t enough - the venue has another incredible USP, its location on thermal waters of Britain, meaning you can literally source water yourself from the outdoor taps, directly from the streams below - that’s where Ensana come in, Europe’s largest hotel and spa operator, delivering world class spa and wellness facilities that will have you peaceful, tranquil and recentred for days and weeks after your stay.

The rooms at Buxton Crescent are impressive spaces, even more impressively decorated. They’ve got that amazing comforting feeling to make delegates feel at home during your next event.

We loved the bathtubs in nearly every suite and felt that the design team at Buxton Crescent had really continued the peaceful, relaxing feel of the hotel’s incredible spa and wellness facilities into the suites on offer. There’s a sense of continuity of feel throughout this venue that carries through the meeting spaces and the grounds outside that is just one of those intangible things that make great events spaces, great.

Walking through the beautiful lobby, bar and lounge areas, you get a real feel for this venue’s deep history. The magnificent arcing structure built for William Cavendish, the 5th Duke of Devonshire, as part of his scheme to establish Buxton as a fashionable Georgian spa town was completed in 1789. Let me tell you Will, you did the job well! This place feels every bit as stylish, intriguing and welcoming as its creators built it to be - 250 years ago

The location isn’t just scenic either, it’s practical and well linked too. It's 1 hour 45 mins from London to Macclesfield, with a 25 minute car transfer to Buxton itself (a gorgeous drive). Not only this, it’s less than 45 minutes drive from Manchester Airport, or the 199 Bus will take you to the airport directly. For an area surrounded by national reserve land and beautiful forestry, this slice of secluded British countryside is bolstered by being easily accessible from just about anywhere.

Despite all this incredible history, the building is also furnished with tonnes of up to date functionality that stands this apart from your average countryside retreat. Fantastic free wi-fi, boundless IT and AV equipment at your disposal, we found that the team here really made the difference when it came to our stay, and by proxy, your event. They were helpful, efficient and most of all friendly. In particular, the vastly experienced Meeting and Events team were always one step ahead, and it felt as if they could solve problems before they even materialised. We’re always impressed when a venue has an events team that really knows what they’re doing and the team at Buxton Crescent were exactly that.

Where to even start with the facilities at Buxton Crescent? Across the Catering, Team Building and partnered locations, and the amazing Spa & Wellness areas that this venue has to offer, we can’t pick a favourite! But we’ll start tucked away peacefully with the sanctuary of the Wellness facilities…

Being part of the Ensana chain of hotels, you know there’s a seriously high level of care put into the spa here at Buxton - it’s their specialty. Across the space there are eight treatment rooms including mud treatments, mineral baths and much more. The treatment rooms are custom built for multi-person use, so if you’re taking a family/team wellness break, this is the spot.

There are three pools, a thermal mineral pool, a relax pool and an outdoor rooftop pool (our favourite) which all provide the perfect spec to get some laps in, or the latter, take in the beautiful scenery, and fresh air.

Once you’re all done in the pools, if you ever want to get out that is, there are three types of saunas that await you, a traditional sauna, a medium heat sauna that’s less intense, and an infrared sauna which provide fantastic cardiovascular and detoxifying benefits.

More info about the Spa is available HERE

When you’re all done there are the lovely, peaceful Spa Cafe, a nice, light airy space that is open from 09:00am – 7:30pm and serves lunchtime bites too. This was a great place to come back to reality after an amazing spa session.

While we’re on the topic of food, there’s some fantastic facilities at The Buxton crescent that really hit the spot after a long day of work. The Dining Room has a regal feel with a fresh twist with quirky hexagonal ceiling patterns setting the scene for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner, all day long. And if you want to take things a step further, try the amazing Afternoon Tea service which really makes you feel like a Duke or Duchess.

Buxton Crescent boasts one of the most impressive swathes of team building and more experimental activities of any hotel we’ve ever visited. Most notably, is the accessibility to the Peak District National Park and all it has to offer right on the doorstep of this incredible venue. Out there there’s no shortage of activities from Walking, Hiking, Cycling, Climbing, Foraging, or for the even more adventurous: Wild Swimming, Caving or Tunneling!

We felt that Buxton Crescent were proud of the area they’re so pivotal to as a venue, and they champion the local attractions as fantastic additions to your awaydays. For team events after a meeting, conference or talk, some of these fantastic venues were the Buxton Opera House (which we’re excited to see on our next visit) Poole's Cavern and the Pavilion Gardens. One of the most interesting spots in the town is St Anne’s Well, which is a natural tap straight from the source of the area’s beautiful natural spring water. If you fancy a little bit more to your drink, don’t fear either, the Forest Distillery or Buxton Brewery have your back!

If somehow you want to treat your clients even more, look to the two golf courses of expertly-designed fairways, beautiful local cycling paths and trails, on site courts for racquet sports or even our favourite - Go-Karting at Swain’s Centre.

Alongside all of the beauty and history that Buxton Crescent holds, they continue to impress with a fantastic portfolio of meeting spaces that caught us by surprise hidden within the amazing structure. The building’s one of a kind design means that huge halls and unfathomable conference spaces aren’t on the table, however instead, they offer some seriously funky, unique and functional rooms that have that same elegance to them we were talking about before.

Every one of the seven spaces at Buxton Crescent is well thought out, spacious, light and well equipped with everything you might need to have a game-changing meeting - we really struggled to pick just three for our highlights! But here you go…

Summary
What a stay we had here at Buxton Crescent, this was truly unforgettable. We really felt like this hotel had it nailed when it came to everything it had to offer, they knew their stuff and they showcased it fantastically. This was also our first trip to an Ensana brand hotel which we have to say has a fantastic offering of spaces for your corporate meetings and private events. They specialise in this elegant luxurious feel and we can tell you right here, they’ve got it spot on.

To conclude, we’d just have to touch on the fact that, beyond all the beauty, the incredible natural landscape, the gorgeous restorations, at the core of Buxton Crescent is a team of lovely professionals who we really felt went above and beyond to enhance our experience, guiding us through the luxurious hallways, or showing us what the area has to offer, there was a genuine friendliness to this team of people who really care about the venue they’re in charge of and that pride seems out in buckets when you visit this stunning hotel.
