The stunning De Vere Tortworth Court is located within the picturesque parkland of Tortworth, in south Gloucestershire, which is just north of Bristol, on the fringes of the Cotswolds. You’ll also find Cheltenham, Gloucester, and Bath all within an hour’s drive.
It is a venue steeped in heritage, the grade II listed Victorian mansion house dates to 1853. Recorded in the Domesday Book, the estate was the ancestral seat of the Ducie family for 350 years. Nestled in 30 acres of Gloucester parkland, stunning grounds, this lovely venue has an extensive arboretum to explore which houses more than 300 plant and tree specimens. Many of the exotic trees planted here are now among the largest ever recorded in this country.
To describe the house in words doesn’t do it enough justice – check out the photographs as it is simply stunning and has masses of wow factor when you first arrive.
As you turn into the grounds, you venture down the long drive until you are hit with the first view of the property. It will definitely impress your clients and delegates.
As you enter the lobby you are struck by the ceiling height and the grandeur of the building and décor. The lobby is sighted next to the grand staircase that takes you to the 55 Mansion House suites. Directly from the lobby is access to the stunning 1853 restaurant and bar, Brunel’s (another event space complete with its own bar) and the corridor which takes you to the event spaces, Atrium bistro, Leaf Spa and the Westminster Suite.
It was lovely to see that Tortworth Court welcomes Doggy staycations, and they’ve even got a paw wash station situated at the front of the hotel. Then there is the resident cat ‘Lady Grey’ who can be spotted in the grounds or her bed in the entrance hall. She is a real hit with families.
BEDROOMS
There are 201 bedrooms in the hotel split over two floors – 55 deluxe & suites in the Mansion House and 146 Courtyard Rooms. These are comprised of standard rooms, deluxe, superior and suites of different sizes. Our room was a Deluxe Junior Suite and it was warm and welcoming. Sited on the 2nd floor of the main house it was spacious with fantastic views across the grounds.
RESTAURANTS & BARS
There are two stunning indoor locations for dining. We couldn’t resist the cream tea in the Atrium Bistro - this light and airy space is one of De Vere Tortworth’s finest original features. The 60-foot-high soaring glass roof, exposed brickwork, indoor greenery and subtle lighting make it an exceptional space. We loved it!
The 1853 restaurant and bar is charming and rich in tradition, found in the old library it maintains lots of original features such as the elegant oak panelling, fireplace and ornate furnishings, with stunning views across the gardens.
This is split into two distinct rooms meaning the library can be used for afternoon teas or evening drinks. The 1853 restaurant can accommodate 140 guests, 1853 bar 50 guests and Atrium bistro 50 guests.
If it’s alfresco dining you are looking for then the Terrace at De Vere Tortworth Court is a stunning outdoor space with sweeping views across the grounds. Perfect for drinks, al fresco dining and afternoon teas.
