Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel

The Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel is a fab venue that has really benefitted from its recent refurbishment. Classic Victorian architecture has been superbly combined with an interior design that has been inspired by the City’s vibrant independent art scene. The result of this union is a fantastic historical, yet contemporary venue that would be perfect for a huge range of events in this area. This is a terrific place and we highly recommend you check it out

This lovely city centre hotel is over 150 years old and whilst retaining its historical feel, it also has some fabulous, contemporary and artistic design features as well. On the conference side, it boasts three large meeting rooms and a number of smaller spaces too – giving meeting planners different options when you are looking for something with character and practicality

Retaining its elegant historic façade and gorgeous period windows, this Grade II listed building was originally the Old White Lion Hotel built back in 1869. Bought by Mercure in 2015, the hotel underwent an extensive two-year refurbishment that gave the hotel its current modern and distinctive look. This rejuvenated decor has been tastefully combined with the buildings original design to create a classic yet contemporary space that will impress any delegate.

As you enter the building, you are instantly greeted by a lovely, bright and very stylish reception area that sets the tone for the rest of the venue. It is here that you are first introduced to some of the amazing 500+ pieces of local commissioned artwork that adorn the walls throughout the site.

Passing through reception, you can either go straight through to the fab, “Keepers Kitchen & Bar” or alternatively, use the lifts to access one of the 186 bedrooms or any of the 11 meeting rooms.

You can also rest assured that with 155 car park spaces next door and with Bristol Temple Meads Train Station being less than 1 mile away, access will be easy for any event that you chose to hold here.

Parking: There are 155 spaces, and although these are chargeable, the rate is negotiable.

Coach / Bus Pick-up Location at hotel: Coaches can drop-off directly outside the hotel door, with the coach park only 2 miles away.

Number of bedrooms: 186

Bedrooms:
There are a range of room types available including, the Standard Double, Compact Double, Standard Twin, Privilege Double, Family Room and Suite. All rooms are in keeping with the modern style of the building and come equipped with satellite/cable TV, coffee/tea making facilities, complimentary Wi-fi and comfy beds. Air-conditioning is also available in all but the Compact Double rooms. We stayed in a privilege room and it was stylish, and very comfortable.

Number of floors: 5

Business centre: No, but their Reception team can do any printing or photocopying that you require.

Wi-fi: Wi-fi was superfast and worked really well throughout the hotel during our stay.

Fitness gym: Yes, the detached gym is located just a few steps away in an adjacent building and comes fully equipped with treadmills, cross-trainer rowing machine, multigym and a selection of dumbbells. It is also open to non-members, but it wasn’t too busy during our stay.

Spa & Swimming Pool: A good sized swimming pool is available for guests and comes complete with a nice jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Access to the spa and swimming pool is also in the next building to the hotel.

RESTAURANTS & BARS:
The appropriately named, Keepers Kitchen and Bar is a great place to enjoy traditional British cuisine that features homegrown honey sourced from a hive on the hotel’s roof! Wow! The hive theme extends beyond the name and can be seen in everything from the colour scheme right through to the honeycomb patterns on the floor, walls and light fittings.

With masses of natural light and a choice of booths, tables and sofas, you can feel free to soak up the cool, modern vibe over one of their honey infused cocktails. We had a great time here and no doubt you will too.

MEETING / CONFERENCE ROOMS
Being home to some of the largest meeting spaces in Bristol City Centre, including Bristol’s largest ballroom, the Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel can accommodate anything up to 600 people in a single room and has masses of flexibility for your events.

All 11 meeting rooms, including the lovely Wessex Suite and the stunning Ballroom are located on the same, “Meeting Floor” (1st floor), with registration being either in the lobby or on the ground floor meeting room lobby. These two areas are complemented by the Duchess and the Marlborough rooms along with several other smaller breakout rooms. Whilst each space varies in size, the same theme can be seen throughout all of them – classic elegance.

Away from the other main meeting rooms in the hotel’s basement is, Marlows. This self-contained nightclub has a vaulted ceiling, exposed brickwork and is a great place that shouldn’t be overlooked. An ideal ‘after show party’ kind of place!

Wessex Suite
The Wessex Suite is the largest room at the hotel and is a fantastic classically designed and stylish space and would be a fantastic location for large conferences or exhibitions. An alcove at one end of the room would be ideal for rear projection or for additional seating, whilst several other smaller alcoves would be perfect for coffee breaks etc. This room is perfect for large conferences, awards dinners, gala evenings etc.

Marlborough Room
Whilst not the biggest room in the hotel, it is arguably the most gorgeous. With ornate ceilings, tall velvet curtains and chandeliers running the length of the room, the Marlborough is an absolutely stunning space. Large windows fill the room with natural light and the many mirrors further add to the palatial feel of this place. Exhibitions, conferences, wedding/drinks receptions would all be perfect in here.

Feeling stately and regal with its 8-metre-high ceilings and huge chandeliers, the Ballroom certainly has the Wow factor that your delegates are looking for. The up lights from the inbuilt columns give a warm, soft, natural pseudo daylight and more than compensate for the lack of any natural light. An inbuilt stage at one end adds a focal point, whilst a bar in a separate side alcove ensure that this space would be perfect for conferences, awards, exhibitions or dinners.
