Official star rating:

5 -Star Superior with one 4-Star building (bedrooms and meeting space) for Pharmaceutical groups

Just a 90-minute drive from Zurich leads you to this gorgeous alpine hideaway. Surrounded on all sides by incredible views of the Swiss alps, this luxury hotel is the epitome of what a 5-star hotel should be like – pure indulgent luxury!

A short drive up from the main road weaves you through the trees where you are greeted by the impressive hotel entrance. Upon entering the hotel, you pass through a glass walled lounge area before entering the contemporary designed reception, where the hotel’s reception staff made us feel very welcome with their 1st class service – super warm check-in experience and escorting us to our lovely bedroom.

The hotel has 143 bedrooms and is split across 4 buildings, with reception being situated in the main building alongside a small but very cool library and one of the hotels excellent four restaurants. There is also a gorgeous terrace here where you can savour those breath-taking mountain views over your morning coffee and breakfast.

If the views are too tempting and if you’re feeling more adventurous, then the hotel’s incredible location makes it the ideal base to enjoy a whole range of outdoor activities, with mountain biking and skiing being the most popular choices. Should you prefer something a little more sedentary, then the hotel can provide fabulous picnic rucksacks for your delegates to enjoy.

Although the resort is spread across separate buildings, covered walkways and even tunnels ensure that you will stay protected from the elements even in the harshest winter blizzard – Wow! What’s more, is that the hotel also has a 4-star standalone section that has been purposely made in order to cater for pharmaceutical groups. This fully pharma compliant section is very nicely appointed and even comes complete with its own meeting spaces too.

Gorgeous bedrooms, amazing restaurants, funky bars and an out of this world spa all form part of this absolutely incredible hotel. On top of all of that, the hotel also has some of the best meeting spaces we have ever seen!

Location:

This region is absolutely blessed with once in a lifetime things to do – so if you are into your winter sports this is an absolutely superb location with masses of ski slopes to explore. And in the summer it just as equally comes alive with its breath-taking scenery and super clean mountain air. And this definitely gives your conferences, meetings and incentive trips many opportunities to take advantage of the region.

For example, during our trip we visited a few places which we’ll detail below – all of which can be tailored for your programme no matter what the size of your group:

Mountain trek:

With our experienced guide, we took the short 10 minute walk into Flims and then took two ski-lifts up to 2/3 of the way to the top of Flims Laax – part of the 235km of world class, groomed ski trails set in Graubunden’s largest interconnected ski area. We then spent the next couple of hours on a guided walk (with packed lunch supplied by the hotel) down the mountain slope on easy paths, flanked by mountain bike trails (which is another activity you can do with a guide). It was a truly magical and unforgettable experience .

E-bike ride:

The e-bikes were supplied by the hotel and after a safety briefing, we were given our helmets and packed lunches and we were off. Led by our fantastic guide we were soon effortlessly riding the surrounding trails. Stopping to take in the amazing scenery before ending our ride with a trip to the glorious Lake Cauma, with its unbelievably crystal clear blue waters, before heading back to the hotel.

Viamala Gorge:

Located some 10 minutes outside of Flims is the amazing Viamala Gorge - milled thousands of years ago by the glacial ice and the waters of the Hinterrhein into the massive rock, the Viamala Gorge was breathtaking. We took the 359 steps down to the bottom – it would be an amazing thing to do with your groups

All of these activities (and MANY more such as golf or rafting) can be tailored specifically for your group numbers and requirements. These opportunities are such amazing things to do, you should really build your programme around them as they are super memorable and great take home memories for your clients and delegates.

Parking: Yes - in all, there are 90 spaces available, with a small charge payable depending upon whether you park in the underground carpark or outside. In keeping with the progressive ecological culture here, there are also two electrical Tesla charging spaces as well.

Coach / Bus Pick-up Location at hotel:

Coaches can drop-off directly outside the main entrance but will need to park elsewhere.

Number of bedrooms:
143

Bedrooms:

There are 5 room types available including: Classic Superior, Superior, Classic Deluxe, Deluxe and Chalet, with all rooms being modern and elegantly designed. If you are feeling particularly indulgent, there are also five absolutely incredible Suites available where top-end luxury comes as standard.

All rooms come fully equipped with everything you’ll need and more. However, what really sets the rooms apart from others that we have been to, are the stunning views. With the crystal-clear alpine air, a few days here is like pressing the reset button on your senses.

Our room was amazing with a rain-forest shower, separate bath, double sinks, terrace and views that defy description. Wow!

Number of floors: 5 including the basement level.

Business centre: The hotel staff can take care of any photocopying / printing you might need

Wi-fi: Yes, Wi-fi was superfast throughout the whole building. In fact, the signal was noticeably faster than most places that we have been to previously.

Fitness gym: Yes. Boasting the latest cutting-edge equipment and on-site personal trainers who can create individual tailored training programmes, the Waldhaus Spa Gym can cater for all your fitness goals.

Spa & Swimming Pool:

With 3 pools, aromatic steam baths, a Finnish sauna, Swarovski physiotherm cabins, women’s sauna area, quiet rooms, an in-ground sauna with open fire, hammam steam baths and much, much more – the Waldhaus Spa is no ordinary hotel spa. It is instead, in our opinion, a gateway to a whole new world of relaxation, tranquillity and wellbeing.

In addition to the incredible spa facilities listed above, there is also a stunning indoor 10 metre swimming pool that affords panoramic views of the local mountain scenery – and all from the vantage of being in a glass cube! Outside, there is a heated outdoor poolscape featuring bubble loungers, massage jets, a jacuzzi and neck massagers.

For those who wish to get a bit closer to nature, there is an outdoor bathing pond filled with local mountain spring water from a stream. Also, if you visit in winter and if are looking for intense revitalisation, there is an ice hole by the jetty for those who wish to brave the icy waters. Luckily, we visited in June, so we didn’t have to think of an excuse not to go in!

Our time in the spa here was just incredible and we experienced unparalleled levels of quality. The only problem we encountered was plucking up the courage to leave as we could have just stayed there forever!

RESTAURANTS & BARS

Whether its casual or fine dining that you are looking for, the Waldhaus Films has got it covered. While there is a massive choice of places to eat, each restaurant offers a unique dining experience to the very highest quality. Amongst the highlights were the Epoca, Siam and Pomodoro restaurants.

The award winning Epoca is fine dining at its best, serving up regional specialities that you will just wish to savour more and more of. With its stunning mountain vista, beautifully charming ambiance and enchanting local fare, the Epoca is a wonderful place to spend an evening.

For those who are in search of authentic Thai cuisine, then look no further than the Siam restaurant. An incredible menu of world-class Thai dishes will make you believe that you are back in Thailand rather than the Swiss Alps. Again, huge windows offer stunning mountain views, that unexpectedly complement this modern Thai taste experience.

Located just outside the hotel’s front gates, the Pomodoro offers typical Italian classics elevated to the highest level. In a family-friendly atmosphere we were able to enjoy some amazing pizza on wafer-thin dough, that had been baked in a stone oven- just as it should be!

For those who appreciate fine cheeses, there is the option to visit the Il Tschaler. Buried away in the Grand Hotel’s vaulted cellar, the Il Tschaler is a rustic gem of a restaurant that is wholly dedicated to the best regional cheese dishes and fondues.

In addition to all of these amazing restaurants, guests can savour a fabulous BBQ on the terrace, whilst groups can also be entertained in the Wine Cellar or Museum, with the further option of a ‘Kitchen Party’ for up to 150 covers. Here, guest Chefs explain their philosophies on cooking whilst preparing stunning dishes that will blow your delegates away.

Finally, for those who wish to make the evening last just that little bit longer, guests can venture into either the refined Chadafo bar with its Davidoff cigar lounge, or alternatively to the hotels Summit bar.

MEETING / CONFERENCE ROOMS

There are 13 stunning meeting rooms available at the Waldhaus Films, with the largest able to hold up to 500 people at a single event. From the incredibly refined and regal Belle Époque Pavilion through to the ultra-modern glass walled Panorama room, you are able to choose a space as casual or as sophisticated as you could ever wish for.

All the meeting spaces here have unrivalled comfort and due to the professionalism of their staff, the Waldhaus Films has forged a solid reputation at hosting successful events. This dependability, together with an amazing location and fantastic facilities makes choosing this venue to host your next event the easiest and best choice you will ever make.
