Athena Events Ltd Leads the Way with Solar Power Installation

Leicester’s iconic Athena Events Venue has taken a bold step toward a more sustainable future by installing rooftop solar panels, significantly reducing its carbon footprint and improving energy independence.

Located in the heart of the city’s Cultural Quarter, Athena is now generating its own clean energy, cutting reliance on the national grid and reinforcing its commitment to a low-carbon, environmentally conscious future.

“This investment aligns with our long-term sustainability goals and reflects our responsibility as a major events venue to lead by example,” said Hira Ram, Head of Events at Athena. “It’s not just about reducing costs—it’s about doing our part for the planet.”

The Environmental Impact: A 30-Year Outlook

Over the next 30 years, Athena's solar power installation is projected to generate approximately 3,005,221 kWh of electricity, helping avoid an estimated 871 tons of CO₂ emissions.

That’s equivalent to:

🌍 1.1 million miles driven by an average car

🌳 38,169 trees planted

✈️ 50,000 roundtrip flights between London and Mykonos

This move places Athena among a growing number of UK venues making real changes to operate more sustainably, setting a powerful example for the wider hospitality and events industry.
