To celebrate Wolverhampton as our 'Destination of the Month' for May, we caught up with a few Wolverhampton people to find out more about the services they offer for event professionals - first up is Danny Scoffin of Krazy Races
---------------------------
DW: Hi Danny, Krazy Races sounds like great fun, can you sum up what it is?
Danny: Krazy Races is the UK’s largest touring soapbox derby, bringing together up to 40 teams—from businesses, colleges, and local groups—to design, build, and race handcrafted soapboxes powered solely by gravity. Each event transforms city streets into thrilling racecourses, drawing thousands of spectators for a day of high-speed fun, creativity, and community spirit. With chicanes, obstacles, and plenty of surprises, it’s a free-to-attend spectacle that’s as entertaining as it is unforgettable.
DW: What kind of impact does Krazy Races have on a local community?
Danny: Krazy Races ignites community spirit by transforming town centres into thrilling event spaces, drawing up to 20,000 spectators per event. Beyond the excitement, it significantly boosts local economies and raises substantial funds for charities—over £250,000 to date. In Wolverhampton, for instance, more than 40,000 attendees across three events helped raise £30,000 for local causes. With vibrant entertainment, local food vendors, and family-friendly activities, Krazy Races offers an unforgettable, free day out that unites and uplifts communities.
DW: If someone is looking to enter a team in a Krazy Races event how would they apply?
Danny: We love bringing the Krazy Races experience to new locations do look out for us all over the country as well. We'd be thrilled to have you join us at one of our upcoming events! To find out where we'll be racing next or to enter a team, simply visit our website at www.krazyraces.co.uk — just search 'Krazy Races' with a 'K' and you'll find us!

DW: Tell us a little more about the support from the City of Wolverhampton and more importantly will the Krazy Races soapbox derby event be returning to Wolverhampton city centre in 2025?
Danny: The City of Wolverhampton Council was one of our earliest supporters, backing us during our formative years around prior to the COVID-19 period. Inviting our event to Wolverhampton and their belief in our vision provided the foundation for our growth, inspiring confidence in other regions to host Krazy Races events. Without their initial support and investment, we wouldn't be the company we are today. While we're not returning to Wolverhampton in 2025, we're excited to bring the Krazy Races experience to new communities across the UK.
In 2025, Krazy Races will be bringing its high-energy soapbox derby events to four UK cities: Crewe (25 May), Lincoln (22 June), Newbury (24 August), and Bristol (7 September). Looking ahead, we're thrilled to announce our expansion to Australia in the next few years. Watch this space!
