The Sustainable Events Show is keen to drive forward the regeneration of the industry as we enter into a new chapter of post-pandemic recovery.

The exhibition will appropriately take place in The Conservatory, The Barbican centre’s huge botanical gardens. The exhibition will be a fully immersive experience and the exhibitor rooms will be split across three zones that blend into one another: event tech, event services, and event venues with carefully selected exhibitors and display a unique IKEA-style floorplan. The exhibition will be a carbon-neutral event with the pop-up stands and furniture produced from sustainable materials by Creative Output.

As we approach COP26, co-creator of the Sustainable Events Show, Wesley Mendy, says “The conversation has switched from covid to climate change and the resultant effects of our behaviour that surround us. Our aim with the Sustainable Events Show is simply to educate, enrich, connect the dots that make great events happen and proactively push forward the issue of events sustainability. Simply put, sustainability is about saving the planet, and the wider event industry plays a huge role. With the impending targets that’ll have been agreed upon at COP26, event organisers will find a huge new set of demands placed upon them to deliver or else! The Sustainable Events Show will provide an environment to reach the sources that can help deliver solutions to address those targets and demands.

For venues and suppliers exhibiting, there becomes the chance at the exhibition to engage with event organisers and demonstrate how they can help towards delivering a sustainable event. Competition in today's events business environment is harsher than it’s ever been. However, all individuals, companies and organisations know sustainability is something that must be a deeply rooted policy woven into every aspect of their working life. Everyone knows the rewards for all that will result, but significantly, a simple strategy centred on sustainability can increase brand value, deliver on consumer demands, stimulate new client relationships, increase efficiency, attract valuable talent and create new opportunities.”

"At The Barbican, we recognise the impacts that our operations and activities can have on the environment and by supporting the Sustainable Events Show, we aim to spread the message of sustainability throughout The Barbican and the wider events industry, which will endorse our commitments."

On being chosen to host the inaugural Sustainable Events Show, Head of Business Events, Jackie Boughton

Co-creator of the exhibition, Dan Bearpark, said “We have always had an extremely close relationship with the events industry at all levels through Prestige Events magazine, The 20/20 Club, and the COOL Venue Awards. In creating the Sustainable Events Show, we absorbed the feedback and overwhelmingly event organisers said they wanted a themed exhibition that confronted sustainability, an efficient floorplan and a fantastic seminar programme – which has been co-produced by Isla, the industry’s leading advisory body on sustainability - so their brains would be less scrambled and their legs wouldn’t be exhausted! Ultimately, we want to produce a day that demonstrates all types of events can be produced and executed in a sustainable manner and bring together the parties that make the magic that is events, happen, and we chose an incredible venue to host it at, slap bang in the heart of London’s square mile, easy for everyone to reach by public transport!”
