‘Most improved Destination for Sustainability’. Silver Award for ‘Best UK Convention Centre’. ‘Best Digital Marketing Campaign’ and a nomination for ‘Best Tourism and Leisure Campaign’ and ‘Best Visitor Experience’ for their work on Liverpool’s hosting of Eurovision 2023 – All in the last few months!

This year Marketing Liverpool has been on the receiving end of some fantastic accolades, but it’s not about the team. It’s about Liverpool.

Nobody can deny a feeling certain amount of pride when hearing your name called out as the winner and holding a shiny award at a glitzy ceremony. But make no mistake, an award for Marketing Liverpool is an award that’s shared with an astounding amount of public and private sector partners. People they work with every day who feed into all our projects and enrich our work in immeasurable ways.

The awards listed above say something important, both about Marketing Liverpool and Liverpool City Region in general. They say the region’s visitor economy is working hard to climb up the global sustainability rankings. They say the effectiveness of Liverpool’s meeting and incentive travel operation is nationally respected. They say that Liverpool unites around a common cause and supports a big win like Eurovision 2023, quite unlike any other city. It takes a city of people to make these things happen.

“Despite our recent slew of awards and nominations, the team here at Marketing Liverpool aren’t particularly self-congratulatory or the least bit award-centric. We tend to be, on the whole, a fairly humble team; one that much prefers to champion Liverpool City Region’s successes rather than our own – as anyone who follows our suite of social media accounts will attest to".

“This is the way things should be, of course, but there’s certainly something to be said for putting yourself forward too. One of the things I’m keen on is having Liverpool at the table. Any table where we should be and that includes awards tables.

“There’s no truer saying than “the squeaky wheel gets the grease” and having the confidence to fill out the occasional entry form, for a project done well, or even to send an email to the wider team and partners to highlight a recent success, can be an important step towards creating a positive reputation for your brand and a motivated team that feels recognised for all their hard work.

“I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to all the people, teams and organisations that support the work we do here at Marketing Liverpool and Liverpool City Council. These awards help to convey important messages about our city and city region. They give us a shorthand way to demonstrate success and position Liverpool to broader audiences.

“Success should be celebrated, even if it does not come naturally to you to talk about your achievements or to put yourself forward for an award. Even when you’re incredibly busy with other things, Winning spurs people on and sets new standards and goals to aim for. Liverpool deserves to be shortlisted for many things and what’s more, we deserve to win. Taking the time to be in the running for wider recognition for your successful project should be part of the job. Ambition pays off and we beleive ‘Team Liverpool’ should always be going for gold.”
