Award winning conference, training and leisure venue Wyboston Lakes Resort has again been recognised as one of the best conference venues in the country, also as among the most sustainable.

It has been shortlisted as a finalist for three awards - Best Conference Venue (over 500 theatre style), Best Event Venue Customer Service (over 500 theatre style) and the Sustainability Award.

Louisa Watson, Director of Marketing, said: “This is superb testimony to our first-class facilities and customer service and to the continuing commitment of our team to finding new ways to make our venues every more sustainable. It’s very exciting.”

The resort’s stylish Woodlands Event Centre was transformed in 2019 to meet the needs of the latest generation of delegates and event organisers. With a variety of rooms fully equipped with the latest technology, it is highly popular and busy with events for many sectors including financial services, pharmaceutical and associations. From sales declining at 20 per cent year on year in 2018, the transformation of the venues has resulted in business in 2022 being up 79 per cent on 2018.

The resort’s commitment to sustainability has been independently accredited by earning gold awards from the Green Tourism Awards and the IACC, and EcoSmart Platinum Venue Award from Greengage Solutions.

Since June 2022, under the resort’s Room2Grow initiative, about 20,000 eco-conscious guests staying more than one night at Wyboston Lakes Resort have chosen to have a tree planted on the resort instead of having their room cleaned.

In September Wyboston Lakes Resort published a 4-year Green Energy Roadmap as the foundation for its plan to become self-sufficient by producing its own green energy using the natural resources available at the Resort, which will help to achieve its Net Zero Carbon Emissions target. All electric energy on-site now comes from renewable resources, reducing the resort’s carbon footprint by 65 percent. Zero-to-landfill was achieved for the sixth consecutive year. It is currently eradicating fossil fuels from the site and ensuring that zero food waste goes off-site. The People’s Pantry, encouraging colleagues to take home remaining freshly made food that would otherwise go to waste, is the latest initiative to help with this, and a biodigester is being introduced.

The results of the Conference & Events Awards 2023 will be announced at a ceremony on 30 June at Old Billingsgate in London.
