To celebrate Dublin as our Destination of the Month, we caught up with a few Dublin people to find out more about the services they offer for event professionals - and to kick things off in style, we kick off with Áine Corrigan, Corporate & Incentive Meetings Officer of Dublin Convention Bureau

DW: Hi Áine, we loved our trip to discover Dublin, can you tell us a little bit about your role at Dublin Convention Bureau and what you love about it?

Áine: My role involves supporting our Irish trade partners with business leads and international event planners in helping them to bring their business events to the Dublin region, making their jobs easier by offering practical and financial support. What I enjoy most is the varied nature of my role and being part of key projects, such as promoting sustainable tourism. I am also privileged to work with an amazing team. I’m proud of my Irish heritage and of what the Dublin region can offer as a world-class business events destination, known for our warm welcome, hospitality and food.

DW: Tell us why event planners should make Dublin Convention Bureau their first port of call when planning an event in Dublin?

Áine: We are local experts with remarkable connections across the industry. We offer practical and financial support for site inspections and to enhance your programme. We are a completely free and impartial service. Making DCB your first port of call will afford you a wealth of free support and information, what’s not to like!

DW: Can you tell us about any new exciting things that are coming to/happening in Dublin?

Áine: Dublin is an ever-evolving city with so many great new venues & eateries popping up all the time.

Dublin's newest sustainable meeting and event venue, the Dublin Royal Convention Centre, offers world-class meetings and events with a capacity for over 1,100 delegates.

The 5-star Leinster opened in November last year, a stunning boutique hotel with 51 bedrooms.

Ruby Molly hotel Dublin opened in February of this year, a city centre 4 star with 272 bedrooms and two Premier Inns with 380 bedrooms combined.

Croke Park stadium’s Cusack Stand re-opened in September of 2024. The new space comprises of multiple breakout spaces varying in size from 80-150 guests and a large modern plenary which can hold 300+ guests seated. The space is often used for casual-standing events boasting capacities for up to 3,000 guests.”

We have our Winter in Dublin programme showcasing so many wonderful Dublin experiences whereby Dublin is alive with excitement and a little bit of magic!

In January, we have TradFest, a joyful celebration of Irish identity through music. Each year, it showcases the best of established and emerging musical talent at a landmark festival which is rooted in the historic and atmospheric setting of Dublin city and county.

DW: Sustainability is a sometimes a non-negotiable for clients, so why Dublin for Sustainability?

Áine: International conferences significantly contribute to positive economic, social and environmental impacts. By bringing people together and fostering collaboration, these events address challenges at local, national, and global levels. Our owner, the National Tourism Development Authority, is delighted to be one of 26 champion organisations chosen to advocate for and promote the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across the tourism sector. As an SDG Champion, we are committed to actively supporting and advocating for the sustainable development goals across the sector, supporting tourism businesses to develop sustainable practices. From our carbon neutral airport, Dublin being home to the world’s first purpose-built carbon neutral constructed convention centre, to our farm to fork strategy, sustainability is at the core of everything we do.

DW: If you had to sum up why Dublin is so appealing to the event industry in five ways, what would they be?

Áine:
1. Ease of access
2. Our fabulously friendly people,
3. Our sustainable food story, some of the best ingredients in the world with the best chefs to prepare them.
4. Amazing venues & hotels
5. Uniquely Irish experiences
