To celebrate Brighton as our Destination of the Month, we caught up with a few local suppliers to find out more about the services they offer for event professionals - check out our interview with Catriona Lane of Brighton Food Tours

DW: Hi Cat, tell us all about Brighton Food Tours and your role?

Cat: We specialise in running both small and large scale food tour events for locals, tourists, small businesses and large corporations. We only feature local independent businesses and specialise in creating events that bring everyone together, celebrating the best food and drink our city has to offer. I started BFT with my business partner, Angela Brightwell, 8 years ago. We design tours together and have a great team of guides who help us put events into action.

DW: So, we were lucky enough to experience the food tour with you recently, and we loved it! Tell us how you tailor them for corporate groups, even for larger numbers?

Cat: So pleased you enjoyed it! We have a lot of experience in scaling up tours to accommodate large groups. We maintain a guide:guest ratio of 1:10, splitting groups into teams following their own food tour route, bringing everyone together at the end and if requested, can include a team building competition into the event too.

It’s an experience, team building event and a meal all rolled into one. It never fails to please!

DW: We definitely walked away knowing lots of interesting fun facts about Brighton and the unsung heroes of your food & drink scene. Tell us how other people can explore the quirky tastes of independent tastes of Brighton and do you have any personal favourite places to eat at the moment?

Cat: Telling the stories behind the food and helping people feel they have got under the skin of the city is our aim. Our recommendation is to look beyond the chains, head into areas such as St James St, London Road, Kemptown or Hove and have a good look at social media for food and drink in the city.

My current favourites are 'Drifter', 'The Hole in the Wall' and 'No, No, Please'.

DW: So how does it all work, what sizes of groups do you cater for?

Cat: We can run tours for a minimum of 8 people and a maximum of around 100. We have run bigger events too, so do get in touch and we can find out what’s possible on your chosen dates. Let us know what you are thinking of and we will do our very best to create an event that suits your needs.
